Published in the same year as the death of American chemist and antiquarian researcher Eben Norton Horsford, “it is the purpose of this little volume to guide all who may wish to follow his footsteps over the ground he has opened and prepared for us, and enjoy the fruit of his labor and research.” Specifically, it distills Horsford’s theory of Leif Erickson’s arrival in Watertown, Massachusetts in the year 1000 and offers detailed maps, area photographs and walking routes to track the remnants of what he called, “Norumbega, the Seaport of the Northmen in Vineland,” including wharves, walls, an amphitheater and what Horsford believed to be Erickson’s house.
